Beer and Wine in Fannin County, GA
August 10th, 2007 3:03 PM

To all of our friends who care about Fannin County

There as some things this beautiful area needs to keep pace with the ever changing and growing world around us. One of the main things on this list is a greater source of tax revenue to keep our economy vibrant.  Allowing beer and wine to be served in our area restaurants would bring a major source of revenue to our county, along with much-needed jobs for our people.

I understand the concerns of many life-long residents of the area.  They do not want their beautiful area to change, and are afraid that alcohol, in any sense, will create problems.  They say that we have done just fine without it up to now, and this may be true.  But that was before Gilmer and Union Counties decided to allow alcohol.  The visitors had no where else to go, so they stayed in the area, and "lived with it".  However, now these same visitors have alternatives, and are spending their money in Gilmer and Union Counties.  This change in the laws would not allow bars or nightclubs, but would allow our wonderful visitors a chance to enjoy a glass of wine with their steak, or a cold beer with their tacos.

This beautiful area is not a place for industrialization, so our only sources of income and jobs in this area are based on the tourism industry.  Without it, our residents will go to surrounding counties to work, and our visitors will go to surrounding counties to buy homes and spend their vacation dollars.  Without controlled growth, our area will begin to stagnate and wither, just as when the mining companies left.

Our County Commissioners are locked in a political "do-nothing" attitude about these issues.  For a summary of the last County Commission meeting, please read the article from the News Observer at http://www.thenewsobserver.com/articles/2007/07/27/news/news01.txt.

We need the local residents and visitors alike to make their wishes known to our Commissioners.  The next County Commissioner's Meeting is on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 6:00pm at the Fannin County Courthouse, 3rd Floor, and we ask for as many as possible to show up.  We are on the agenda to demand action by our Commissioners on the beer and wine issue.  Please mark your calendars and be there..it is a very important issue for our county.  Remember, there is action in numbers!

PLEASE PASS THIS POST ON TO ALL OF YOUR LIKE-MINDED FRIENDS!!!

***INACTION IS NOT AN OPTION FOR US ANYMORE!!!***
